Wheel test 4

I received my Svelt RAR rear with a new 12/12 cross hub instead of the 2/1 (16/8). So I took the opportunity to do a final wheel test to validate the hypothesis of the importance of the spokes.

On the program, the same test climb of Wheel test 4 the Salbert and 3 wheels: Edge Carbone with Ultremo ZX tire, Rar Svelt tubular Veloflex tires and Fulcrum 7. I took the Fulcrum 7 again to confirm the rather poor results obtained during Wheel test 4 the previous test. Once again, I invite new readers who come across this post first to read the previous ones to fully understand the history and test conditions.

TEST 1 then TEST 2 then TEST 3

Today’s weather is perfect for late September. Sun, no wind, and a temperature of 18 degrees. It’s very close to previous tests.

I start as usual with a first warm-up climb with progressive acceleration fax lists with the EDGE tires. I get 289 W SRM for 290 W theoretical. Within the norms once again. I then start the test protocol with accelerations of 30s every 2 minutes. I toughen it up a bit by producing a big acceleration standing on the pedals @800 watts for the first few seconds. Always with the aim of highlighting the low inertia of the wheels to accelerate. I get 311 W SRM for 310 watts theoretical. Now it’s time for the Svelt and unfortunately I Wheel test 4 quickly become disillusioned with 313 W SRM for 309.5 watts measured. Here I am again with 2 to 3 watts boosting reach with reels and subtitles lost compared to the Edge. I start again to be sure and I get 306 W SRM for 302.5 theoretical…

What remains?

According to RAR my tubulars are worn @80%. That’s all there is left in difference compared to my customer’s Svelt, tried 15 days earlier, which had new tubulars with good results. To complete I replace the SVELT rear wheel again with my Edge rear wheel and this time I get 1.5 w more than the theory…. again within the standards and confirming the problem on the SVELT rear wheel. Informed observers will have noticed that this acceleration protocol makes me lose watts/theoretical compared to a progressive climb seated at 100%. Yes it’s amazing but the results speak for themselves. Going from 20 to 30 km/h while standing for a few seconds malaysia numbers list degrades the overall SCX on the climb and at 30 km/h it starts to play. There was no such loss phenomenon in the previous tests because I was climbing and accelerating while sitting.
